I’m a writer from India currently querying my YA fantasy novel.
I’ve been writing for as long as I remember, in my mother tongue first, and then in English which I learned when I was six. My book is a culmination of long years of wondering hmm, but WHY is there no Indian fantasy not related to the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. It’s got all the things I love, is probably too long, and was written on extremely precious stolen time I got between working long hours in an e-comm firm (you can guess which one – it’s the first one that comes to mind), haggling anxiety, and battling impostor syndrome.
I have a thing for STEM subjects and can speak at length about the mechanics involved in teleportation, cloning, or interstellar travel. I am a huge Theoretical Physics nerd, with additional interests in biomedical engineering and cybernetics. I have a degree in Electronics and Communication (very reluctantly obtained ), which probably explains why I can still write the Schrodinger’s waveform proof in my sleep, but I am also a huge television nerd: favorites include Supernatural (that long show of slowly declining logic; but I still love those boys!), The Good Place, Stranger Things, GoT, Penny Dreadful etc. I’ve got a thing for superheros, another thing for theater, and I love fantasy literature both adult and YA. Again! Favorites include Brandon Sanderson, Mark Lawrence, Lev Grossman, Leigh Bardugo, Ken Liu, Scott Lynch, N.K Jemisin, Nnedi Okorafor, Elizabeth Bear, and Neil Gaiman.
I am a trained Carnatic classical musician, which basically means that I can sing ancient kirtans in languages I don’t know. My greatest writing goal is to somehow come up with a book into which I can squeeze this knowledge of music. (Seriously. It was like learning code-breaking. Which is also a thing I learned! AHEM.)
I currently live in Bengaluru, the land of startups, fabled traffic, and flaming lakes, but, I’m originally from Kerala, which looks a little bit like this:
It’s a very, very diverse part of India, in terms of religions and languages and festivals, and which means that I am naturally very passionate about #ownvoices.
I speak four languages and write five. That’s not including HTML, XML, BlueJ, and MATLAB code, which also I speak and write.
If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m a proud nerd. GIVE ME SOMETHING NEW TO LEARN.
